My child is 3, are they ready for dance class?

Though every child is unique, theses are the developmental landmarks we look for children to have achieved before joining independent dance classes:

  • They are not currently struggling with separation anxiety when leaving primary caregivers: extensive crying or clinging.
  • They can follow simple movement instructions such as "find your spot," "make a circle," "follow my dance moves" or “wait/freeze,”
  • They can stay focused on a physical task for 3-5 minutes
  • They have some recognition of when music changes. For example, they move more energetically when music is fast and calmer when it is slow.

Though we build these skills through our dance classes, having a foundation in them before coming to class helps make sure dance is a positive experience for children.
